The webcam shows the construction of the Red Wings arena

Now you can follow the progress of the Detroit Red Wings Arena project from anywhere, anytime with a 24/7 webcam.

The broadcast began around 10 a.m. today at the 12-acre site looking north from the Foxtown area. A live, zoomable view of the building action is available, as are the archives and time-lapse footage on The Detroit District website.

“Rapid progress continues to be made on the site: concrete is poured daily, and the first steel beams will be put in place in the fall,” according to a Press release.

The arena, as well as office and retail buildings and more are under construction in the area. The site is surrounded by black fences, making it difficult for pedestrians to peek around. The webcam gives a glimpse of the interior of the crater where the arena will be.

“Now hometown fans and supporters around the world can see the incredible progress of this transformational development unfolding right here in the heart of Detroit,” said Steve Marquardt, vice president of Olympia Development of Michigan, in the press release. “With the mass excavation completed and the concrete poured in place at this time, we are on track to open the new Detroit arena for the 2017 NHL season. “

Olympia Development is a real estate company owned by Michael and Marian Ilitch. Other Ilitch companies include Little Caesars Pizza and the Detroit Red Wings. Michael Ilitch owns the Detroit Tigers and Marian Ilitch owns the MotorCity Casino Hotel.
