Diamond Dawg’s playoff hopes are fading fast

Progress was made by Mississippi State on the baseball field for a few weekends, but it was all shot on the road last week.

There was virtually no room for error for the Bulldogs here, but Missouri just put the nail in the coffin. After posting 20 hits and 13 runs in a 13-4 win Friday night, State couldn’t finish the job the next two days. Missouri unloaded on Preston Johnson and Cam Tullar Saturday in a blowout loss and State left 10 runners on base Sunday allowing Missouri to walk away with a home run in the ninth.

The series loss dropped State to 9-12 in the SEC and the RPI continues to drop and heads into the 90s. It would take a miracle for the Bulldogs to enter the playoffs as they will need to rack up wins against the Florida, Texas A&M and Tennessee over the final three weekends of the season. That State is even in this position is a wonder in itself less than a year after the program won the first national championship in a team sport in school history.

After the bad weekend on the road, we spoke with Bulldog fans about the current state of the team and what’s happening to bring about the struggles of 2022.
